  • Cervical Spondylitis Conventional Treatment

The aim of treatment is to give the patient relief from pain and prevent permanent spinal cord and nerve root injury.

    • Medication to reduce the pain- NSAIDs
    • Muscle relaxants to relieve the stiffness and pain.
    • Restriction of the motion of the neck- Neck brace (cervical collar) is used.
    • Intermittent neck traction may be recommended with/instead of cervical collar.
    • Cortisone injections
    • Surgery- Surgical decompression of the spinal cord may be recommended for severe pain or for significant loss of movement, sensation, or function.
    • Physiotherapy is important adjuvant to medical or surgical treatment. It helps to decrease the duration of disability, to reduce the use of drugs and to prevent chronicity and recurrence.  Exercises for the neck, shoulder and the limbs are advised.
